The Old Bridge and Somerset airports are among six airports to share $4.4 million in state airport improvement funds. These funds, which leverage federal funding and airport contributions, will support a total of $5.7 million worth of work, state officials said this week.
Old Bridge Airport will receive $498,750 in grants to support an airfield lighting system project worth $525,000.
Somerset Airport in Bedminster will receive $681,535 in grants to help pay for a fuel storage and dispensing system replacement worth $717,405.
The state has invested more than $17.6 million in general aviation airports in the past five years, leveraging an additional $36.3 million in federal grants and $2.9 million from airport owners.
