MAAC Works to Head off PTFR Violations

In anticipation of the upcoming Presidential Temporary Flight Restriction (PTFR), MAAC Directors sent letters and posters to roughly 300 airports in NJ, NY, PA, & DE. The letters asked managers to share and post a warning for pilots to remember to check NOTAMs prior to every flight. The recent PTFRs have had dozens of violations resulting in intercepts by the Coast Guard and National Guard. Some of these pilots came from outside New Jersey, some from within and a few were repeat offenders.

The next PTFR is scheduled to begin Friday, Sept. 1 and continue through Monday, Sept. 4, 2017.

MAAC is working to try to reduce the size and scope of PTFRs but, in the meantime, we all need to fly inaccordance with the PTFR NOTAMs. Please feel free to copy and share the poster. It’s important that we police our own and keep these areas free of general aviation trespass.
